PSC Winter Sports Tournament

Last week the Primary Sports Canterbury Winter tournament was held. We were one of the few schools in canterbury to have four teams qualify by winning their Zone tournament.

Our A Hockey team took third place after drawing with the eventual winners, Tai Tapu in pool play. They were a little disappointed but can still be very proud of their efforts especially since their Hatch Cup player was missing.

The A Football team also had a few players missing including their capatian and two PSC Cross Country reps but did well to get 11th out of the 14 teams and they enjoyed themselves.

The A Netball team came 4th in their section and were excited to win three and lose three. The B team, who qualified as second top school in our zone, were up against all A teams but still manged one win - well done!

Well done to all teams and thanks to the parents who helped with transport and supervision - a long winter season!

Schools Orienteering Festival

We have 100 children approx. entered in the Schools' Orienteering Festival that was postponed due to the Earthquake - below is news about the event from the organisers:

Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your patience over the last week. I hope that life is returning to some form of normality for most of you while being aware that for many around us that will be a long time coming.

It is hoped to reschedule the Schools Orienteering Festival to Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 November with the sprints on Saturday at Halswell Quarry and the Long on Sunday probably in the Bottle Lake Forest area. These plans are still subject to landowner approval but as we know that term 3 finishes for some of you tomorrow (today by the time you read this) we wanted to bring up to date with our plans.

We will confirm the date and venues as soon as possible and then we will be able to discuss if the original entries are to stand or if we start again and likewise entry fee payments/refunds.

Regards,

Mary Mackintosh

Schools Liaison for

Peninsula and Plains Orienteers.

NO Orienteering this Weekend

Canterbury Schools Orienteering Festival POSTPONED

The events due to be held 11 and 12 September at Halswell Quarry and Kairaki Beach (Woodend) have both been postponed until further notice.

A big thank you to all who offered to help during the events and who have been working hard in the lead up to the weekend. We hope that we can find another date sometime next term to reschedule but that decision is some time away.

I have also asked our webmaster to post a notice there and hopefully have a cancellation notice broadcast on 3ZB as we realize some of you may be unable to contact your students.

We are sure that you will all understand in the circumstances and we hope that you are all safe.

Regards,

Mary Mackintosh

From Lyn Miles, Primary Sports Canterbury Sports Director:
In fairness to all involved, as some schools will not be open this week, and because some football fields are still not great, the primary schools winter tournament is postponed until Tuesday 21 September. Same times and places.
This is one of the original postponement dates in our calendar of events.
