Over 300 Triathletes @ Fendalton School

Team 22 Individual Triathletes last Wednesday

Today over 300 triathletes of all ages competed in our Teams' Triathlon (105 teams of 3). Some classes in the Middle and Senior Teams had 100% participation! (I know Team 7 did!). Teachers and parents also took part with the only school record falling on the day to the Mums' team of Annabel S., Kate R and Julieana F. who smashed the 2008 record by 43 seconds and were the fastest team overall on the day in 7min. 16 sec.

It was great to see so many children giving it a go and hopefully many of the participants will try a full triathlon in the future.

Ribbons for triathlon placegetters in both the Individual and Teams' Tri will be awarded at assembly on Friday.

Individual Triathlon 2008 - One record broken!

We had 125 children start and finish our school triathlon today! One record was broken but more importantly lots of children completed their first ever triathlon and were very proud of themselves!

Louis B (pictured opposite) was a close second to Henry I (who won his second school title within 24 hours!) in the Seniors Boys' race but he broke the 9 years boys' record , held by his brother Max, by six seconds to record 15m36secs. Third Senior Boy was Alex H just edging Alex S, winner of the second wave. The Junior Boys' race was a tight tussle with Nathan C edging Jay S and Sam T on the run to win in 9m50s.

Senior Girls' Champion for 2009 was Holly R in 17.23 ahead of Isabel G and Goldie H. Bayley A was a convincing winner of the Junior Girls' race ahead of Jordyn B and Hannah J. The 6 Years Girls' record, held by Claudia R, was missed by only 6 seconds by Lauren S-S in 12.50.

The Teams' Triathlon will be held next Tuesday, 24 February, and we hope for lots of parents to join the teachers and close on 300 children.

Swimming Sports 2009 - 2 records broken!

Our swimming sports took place today in glorious sunshine! The water temperature was only 17 degrees this morning after a cold night but was 21 degrees for the sports and was quite refreshing. Well done to all the children who chose to compete. We don't have full results as yet but a few highlights were:

Stella C broke the 2005 Junior Girls' 1 length freestyle record of 17.20 by smashing the 17 second barrier. The Junior Girls' Breaststroke record was beaten for the second time in two weeks, this time by Bayley A. The Junior Girls also just missed the backstroke record also!

The Seniors Boys' 2009 championship came down to the last race of the day as Henry I and Jared C had both had one win and one second each. Henry just edged Jared in the Breaststroke final to win the title.

Overall Champions were:
Junior Girls: Annabel N
Junior Boys: Sam T
Senior Girls: Annabelle W
Senior Boys: Henry I

The exciting 8 lap House Relay saw Green ahead of Red, Blue, Parents/Teachers(10 laps) and Gold.

Full results and photo will be on this blog as soon as they are available.

Swimming Sports Postponed

Due to the weather our swimming sports have been postponed to MONDAY 16 FEBRUARY. The weather doesn't look the best for Monday though, and they may be held on TUESDAY 17 FEBRUARY. We are sorry for the inconvenience but we were hoping for lovely February weather like we usually get. That is why the sports were scheduled for Week Two of school.

If the pool temperature is too cold we may only swim the length and championship races, as we did last year.
