2010 School Cross Country

Great running from everyone at the Cross Country in beautiful Autumn conditions. Well done to Liam who competed in his first Cross country in his wheelchair! It was very special to have 2010 World Schools' Cross Country Champion and former FOS student, MARGOT GIBSON, there to present the trophies.

School Cross Country on Tuesday

Fendalton School Cross Country Championships 2010

Tuesday 4 May: 12.40pm-3.00pm approx. (Postponement Date – Thursday 6 May)

Lunch will be from 12.00-12.30pm for Juniors and normal time for Middle/Senior children, but children are encouraged to eat their lunch at 10.35am at morning tea time to avoid stitch.


12.40pm Year 1 Girls - 2 laps (670m) of field area only

12.50pm Year 1 Boys - 2 laps (670m) of field area only

1.00pm Year 2 Girls - 2 laps (670m) of field area only

1.10pm Year 2 Boys - 2 laps (670m) of field area only

1.20pm Year 1/2 Prize-Giving: Ribbons for first three in each age group

Ages are at April 1st 2010.

1.35pm 7/8 Years - 1 lap (700m) Girls

1.40pm 7/8 Years - 1 lap (700m) Boys

1.45pm 7/8 Years - 2 laps (1.4km) Championship Race – Girls (Wright Cup)

1.55pm 7/8 Years- 2 laps (1.4km) Championship Race – Boys (Sim Cup)

2.05pm 9/10 Years - 2 laps (1.4km) Girls

2.15pm 9/10 years - 2 laps (1.4km) Boys

2.25pm 9/10 years - 3 laps (2.1km) Championship Race – Girls (Kirkpatrick Cup)

2.35pm 9/10 years - 3 laps (2.1km) Championship Race – Boys (Galletly Cup)

2.50pm Year 3-6 Prize-Giving - Ribbons and Cups for Championship, Certificates for other races for first three. Ribbons and certificates are given in one year age groups.

School Team: A school Cross Country team is selected from the 7/8/9/10 Years Championship races (first six 7/8, 9 and 10 years boys and girls - age @ 1 April). This group then train together and will then compete at the West Zone Championships at Burnside Park on Tuesday 18 May from 12.30pm. There are six runners per age group allowed to run at the zones in the 6 age groups. If you have any questions about the team please email Mr Norton paul.norton@fendalton.school.nz. The team will travel to Hanmer on 22-24 September for the Inter Regional Cross Country Championships.

It was great to see the sun flickering out as we ran the Middle and Senior School Cross Country this afternoon. A big crowd of parents, grandparents and former pupils were entertained by some fast and furious racing as children endeavoured to win certificates, ribbons, trophies and to achieve their goals.

Former pupil, Margot Gibson, presented the trophies to our school champions. Margot is an example of a real Fendalton Dream maker, she currently holds three New Zealand titles - the NZ Sec. Schools Under 16 Cross Country and 1500m titles and the NZ open Grade 16 and under 1500m title.

After waiting a day to stage the event we had good weather for the Cross Country.
The race was very competitive at all levels showing the good training undertaken by each class prior to the event. The first three places are recorded and receive a ribbon of achievement. Well done to all the participants.

Cross Country Postponed till Thursday

Due to the bad weather forecast the Cross Country has been postponed till tomorrow - same times as per advertised. 12.40pm first race for Juniors, last race for Seniors 2.35pm - see times below in the Week's events.
